Garza quiets Twins

Minnesota Twins
Minnesota Twins

Matt Garza pitched into the 7th inning without allowing a run as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Minnesota Twins at Miller Park Monday night 6-2.   Garza improved to 3-4 by working six and a third scoreless innings, giving up six hits while striking out eight.   It took four innings for the offense to get going against Minnesota starter Kyle Gibson.   Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Gomez delivered RBI singles for a 2-0 lead.  In the 5th, after Scooter Gennett doubled, Mark Reynolds smashed his team leading 13th home run over the right field wall to double the advantage.   Milwaukee parlayed two Tervor Plouffe erros for another run in the seventh and Lucroy launched a solo home run in the eighth.  The Brewer catch finished three for four to raise his batting average to .325.  The Twins scratched across single runs in the final two frames against Brandon Kintzler and Rob Wooten before Zach Duke recorded the final out with a strikeout.   The Brewers (35-23) have now won four of their last five and increased their division lead to five games.  Yovani Gallardo will face Samuel Deduno in the final game of the home stand Tuesday night before the rivalry picks up at Target Field Wednesday and Thursday night.  Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM on WTAQ.
