Thompson gets new deal

by

Green Bay Packers General Manager Ted Thompson will be around a while.  Team President and CEO Mark Murphy announced today the 61 year old Thompson has been signed to a new, multi-year contract extension.   Thompson is in his second stint with the Packers, joining then GM Ron Wolf's staff in 1992.   He followed former Head Coach Mike Holmgren to Seattle after the 1999 season helping build an NFC Championship club.   Thompson was brought back to the Packers in 2005, hired Mike McCarthy as coach in 2006 and helped build an NFL champion.  The Packers won Super Bowl XLV in Dallas after the 2010 season, they've won four NFC North Division titles including the last three in a row and they've made the playoffs six times under his watch.  The length of the contract extension has not been released but Thompson told reporters Wednesday afternoon he feels great and has not timetable for brining his NFL front office career to a close.
