DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Cherry orchards in Door County are open for the season and the picking has started.
The owner of Robertson Orchards near Sturgeon Bay says people have been calling for the last two months already. The cold winter and cold spring delayed the season by about two weeks.
Some trees were lost to the weather, but at least one orchard says it is expecting the biggest crop in the last 8 years.
Cherry picking season is a short one. It should be wrapped up in about a month.
At 12 million pounds or so, Door County is the fourth-largest producer of tart cherries in the U.S.
