The most decorated soccer player from the Green Bay area is calling it a career after 10 professional seasons, most in England. Jay DeMerit announced his retirement from the MLS Vancouver Whitecaps after two straight injury plagued seasons. The former Bay Port Pirate standout attended college at UIC in Chicago but went undrafted in the MLS. He decided to pursue a pro career on his own in Britain and worked his way up from lower level clubs to captain Watford in the English Premier League. He also was a top defender on the US Mens National team for five years, playing in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
