MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Democrat Mary Burke has raised $1.8 million in the last three months in her bid for governor. That includes $400,000 of her own money.
The candidates do not have to file financial updates until January 31st -- and Burke's camp made a political statement by releasing hers early. Campaign manager Maggie Brickerman said it shows that Wisconsin is ready for new leadership that, "puts problem solving ahead of politics."
The former Trek Bicycle executive reported her financial activity from the time she announced her candidacy in October through the end of December. She had $1.3 million on hand going into the New Year.
Burke is the only Democratic candidate so far against Republican Governor Scott Walker. The Walker camp has not commented on its fundraising activity, or on Burke's report.
Walker's next report will cover activity from July through December. The Walker camp reported $2.2 million in its war chest as last June 30th. That's after raising $3.5 million in the first half of the year.
