The WIAA Boys State High School Basketball Tournament opened Tuesday night with sub-regional games in all five divisions. Opening night offered a couple of thrilling finishes. In Division 1, Manitowoc defeated Green Bay East 60-58 as Adam Bonk knocked down a three point shot with :04 to play. In Division 2, Green Bay West got a layup from Devonte Johnson with :06 left in regulation to force overtime but Menasha won it OT 51-47. Green Bay Notre Dame defeated Marinette 70-41. In Division 3, Oconto Falls defeated Wittenberg-Birnamwood 64-45, Chilton advanced over Kewaunee 52-40, Two Rivers beat Denmark 84-49. Algoma knocked off Mischicot 61-30 in a Division 4 matchup. The only number one ranked team among the five divisions in action was NEW Lutheran. The Blazers got all the way to the state title game last year before falling to Randolph and they opened with an easy 73-39 victory over Lena. Dakota Zinser scored 21 as the Blazers won their 20th straight game to improve to 22-1 on the season. Regional semifinals are set for Friday night.
