The Green Bay Phoenix clinched the Horizon League regular season title and the number seed in the conference tournament by beating Valparaiso 67-53 before a raucus crowd at the Resch Center Thursday night. It's the first regular season title for the Phoenix since 1996. Kiefer Sykes led the way with 19 points, Alec Brown scored 14 as he was honored before the game on senior night. He also pulled down five rebounds and blocked 8 shots. Jordan Fouse recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Green Bay jumped to a 13-2 lead but needed an Alfonzo McKinnie three point shot before halftime to lead 30-27 at the break. The Phoenix built the lead back to 10 only to see the Crusaders close to within 46-42 but they would get no closer. Green Bay improves to 22-5 on the year, 12-2 in the Horizon League with two games left to play next week at Oakland and at Detroit. They'll return home though as the host team for the Horizon post-season tournament.
