Police: Winona State student was drunk when she drowned on New Year's Eve

LA CROSSE, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities say a woman who plunged her car through ice and drowned on New Year’s Eve was legally drunk at the time of the incident.

La Crosse Police say 21-year-old Ellen Ahmann – a Winona, Minnesota resident – had a blood alcohol level of 0.16, twice the legal limit.

Authorities say the Winona State University student plunged down a 40-foot embankment. Her body was discovered in the Mississippi River the following day.
