RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAU) -- A bomb scare at the Oneida County courthouse turned out to be a false alarm in the end.
Part of the Oneida County courthouse closed down early Monday as a safety precaution after a unattended dufflebag was found around 10 am. Sheriff's Lieutenant Lloyd Gauthier says courthouse staff members attempted to figure out who the owner of the bag was, and then notified the sheriff's department when they were unsuccessful. As a precaution, the courthouse staff was evacuated at about 2:15 p.m.
The Marathon-Oneida County Bomb Squad was dispatched to investigate the contents of the duffel bag. When they X-Rayed it, it turned out to be diapers.
The courthouse will open back up Tuesday morning at 8 am.
