President signs the farm bill

Farm Bill
Farm Bill

Washington, DC (KELO-AM) President Obama on Friday signed the 5-year Farm bill which providers benefits to farmers and ranchers in South Dakota and across the country.

The president signed the huge bill at Michigan State University, and joked it was like a Swiss Army Knife as it has so many components, including the food stamp program.

The legislation expands federal crop insurance while ending direct farm payments. It provides relief for West River ranchers hit hard by the October blizzard. South Dakota's congressional delegation is urging U-S-D-A to expedite that relief.

Kristi Noem was South Dakota's lone representative on the conference committee that worked out the final bill. She is traveling across South Dakota on what she called her 'Field to Fork' tour, to explain what the bill means.
