Mellen, Wis. (WSAU) -- The recent sub-zero temperatures have made the core sampling by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources a challenging process but drilling is underway.
The mining company G-Tac received approval from the Wisconsin DNR to drill 15 exploratory holes at the proposed mine site near Mellen after drilling 8 of an expected 13 holes last summer.
Hydrological testing has also been completed. The tests will show data about where groundwater is coming from and how to treat it.
The next step for G-Tac will be to conduct bulk sampling. They plan on starting within the next few weeks.
