11-year-old Sheboygan boy rescued after sand dune collapses on him

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities in Sheboygan County say an 11-year-old boy is okay after getting trapped in a sand dune.

Sheriff's deputies say it happened around 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Kohler-Andrae State Park.

The boy was digging a hole in the dune, which are up to 60 feet tall, when the entire side came down on him.

As emergency crews worked to dig the boy out, more sand fell on him. They were able to get the boy's head out of the sand relatively quickly.

The boy was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
