Chase Headley's solo home run in the top of the 12th inning off Alfredo Figaro lifted the San Diego Padres to a 2-1 victory over the Brewers Tuesday night at Miller Park, ending Milwaukee's four game winning streak. Scooter Gennett's first home run of the season in the 5th accounted for the only Brewer tally. Milwaukee left 11 runners stranded including five in the first three innings against San Diego starter Ian Kennedy. Yovani Gallardo worked seven frames, allowing a run on five hits. It was the 16th quality start for a Brewers starter in 21 games. The Padres' bullpen allowed just three hits over the final six innings. Milwaukee (15-6) will send Kyle Lohse to the mound in the rubber game of the series Wednesday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM on WTAQ.
Major League Baseball handed out discipline from Sunday's fight at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Martin Maldanado was given a five game suspension for throwing a punch in the melee. Carlos Gomez received a three game suspension. For the Pirates, Travis Snider was suspended two games and Russell Martin one. Gerritt Cole, who may have touched off the brawl by exchanging words from Gomez following his third inning triple, was spared discipline. Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke didn't think that was fair. Maldanado will not appeal and he began serving his suspension Tuesday night. Gomez has filed an appeal which will be heard later this week.
