MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - U.S. Senate Republican Rand Paul -- who's considering a run for the White House in 2016 -- paid a visit to Milwaukee Wednesday to see how private school choice is going.

He said the tax-funded vouchers for low income kids give more parents the power to choose a religious education for their youngsters.

Paul, of Kentucky, met with parents, teachers, and school choice advocates at St. Anthony School in Milwaukee. It's the largest K-12 Catholic high school in the nation with enrollments of over 1,500 at several locations in Milwaukee.

He stressed the choices that the voucher program offers, in comparison with the public schools, and he said, "Competition makes us all better."

The city's Hispanics for School Choice helped set up Paul's visit -- which comes a day after he endorsed private school choice at a forum in Chicago.
