GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - UW-Green Bay men's basketball coach Brian Wardle has agreed to a new five-year contract.
Athletic director Mary Ellen Gillespie said Thursday that Wardle -- a former Marquette assistant -- has done an outstanding job in his four seasons with the Phoenix, and she wants to make sure the team keeps moving forward.
Wardle is 71-56 in four seasons at Green Bay. He was named the Horizon League's coach of the year after the Phoenix won the regular season crown in March.
Green Bay was one of the last four schools to be eliminated from the NCAA Field of 68. The team went 24-7 last season, with its first NIT bid in 22 years.
More recently, Wardle was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Marquette coaching job that went to Steve Wojciechowski.
