Officer-involved shooting in south Appleton

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Police in Appleton say an officer was involved in a shooting Thursday evening on the city's south side.

Cops were called to the 1300 block of S. Monroe Street, near St. Elizabeth Hospital. They were responding to a shoplifting complaint. Upon arrival, cops say the suspect pulled out a gun.

The officers ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, and when he didn't officers opened fire.

Appleton police say the suspect was injured and is in custody. No officers were hurt.

Police didn't say what business the suspect targeted, but police say it was on S. Oneida Street.

The Green Bay Police Department is helping with the investigation.
