GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A former Green Bay teacher accused of sexually assaulting one of his students had his preliminary hearing postponed Tuesday.
Jer Lovaj is facing two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child for allegedly touching an 8-year-old girl at Sullivan Elementary School. His preliminary hearing is now set for April 24.
Two reasons were cited in court for the delay:
* The state’s lead detective on the case is out of state and is unavailable to testify.
* Defense attorney Peter Heyne wants to review recent changes in how hearsay evidence is handled at preliminary hearings.
Lovaj was fired over the alleged incidents. He worked at several schools in the district as an ESL teacher since 1996.
