WEST ALLIS, WI (WTAQ) - A West Allis woman was sentenced to 18 years in prison Friday, for locking her three children in a bedroom where they later died in a fire.

25-year-old Angelica Belen didn't have a babysitter and needed to go to work that day.

She must also spend 18 years under extended supervision when she's no longer behind bars.

Belen struck a plea deal that convicted her on three felony charges of child neglect causing death.

Five-year-old Nayeli Colon, and four-year-old twins Adrian and Alexis Colon died in the April 12th blaze.  Another child was away with their father at the time.

Belen had six misdemeanor neglect charges dropped in the plea deal.

They were connected with an incident in March in which Belen and another child went into a store, and three other kids were left in her car. The four-year-old twins got out and walked around the parking lot, and another vehicle almost hit them.

Before the fire, officials said Belen was warned twice by a child welfare worker not to leave her kids alone.

On March 28th, officials said Belen’s kids were in need of protective services – but she was still allowed to keep them.
