Two attempted sexual assaults near UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - Oshkosh police are investigating two attempted assaults of women near the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus.

Police say the first incident happened on Woodland Avenue around 4 a.m. Monday. A victim told officers she was walking home when she noticed a man following her. As she tried to open the door, she says the man grabbed her, but she fought him off and got inside her home safely.

Police checked the area but could not find the man. The attacker is described as a black man in his 20s. He was wearing khaki shorts, a light-colored shirt and a baseball cap.

Police say the second incident happened on Jackson Street around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

In this case, the victim told police she was walking home when someone started following her. When she arrived at her door and tried to go in, the person following her tried to grab her. When he noticed she was on the phone with 911, he ran away.

The victim in this case was not able to get a physical description of the attacker. Again, police checked the area but did not find anyone.

Investigators say they believe the two incidents are related.

Anyone with information is asked to call Oshkosh police at (920) 236-5700.
