MetJet instructed to help passengers deemed stranded get home

DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) - Passengers of Metjet who are considered stranded by the U-S Department of Transportation, will get help from the company in getting home from Florida.

The De Pere based charter flight company ceased flight operations after Wednesday and there has been some confusion with customers and about the responsibilities of MetJet and SunCounty Airlines.

Founder and CEO Michael Heisman says he gave the required ten day notice, but a lot of it depends on when customers knew the company would no longer be flying them back.

Heisman says each customer who flew to Florida and don’t have a return flight with them will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Sun Country stated during the conference call that it would return any passengers that are mid-trip.

According to DOT Public Affairs' Bill Mosely agency rules "require any direct air carrier operating a U.S. originating passenger charter to return to his or her point of origin any passenger who purchased round trip transportation on that charter and who was transported by the carrier on his or her outbound flight."

Meanwhile, Heisman says a majority of ticket refunds have been processed.  He says hundreds of people who didn’t qualify submitted refund requests.
