ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials say they hope to reopen the Leo Frigo Bridge on January 17, 2014.
During a news conference Tuesday, DOT officials say they're putting out a request for bids later in the day to make repairs to the bridge, which sagged on September 25.
That contract would require the bridge to be completed by that January 17 date, and there will also be incentives to have the work finished prior to that.
DOT officials also say their investigation is nearly complete, and continues to show that corrosion in pilings under Pier 22 caused the two-foot sag in the deck. Other tests reveal similar corrosion in pilings under nearby piers.
DOT officials say the repair process was determined with the help of a team of consultants. Crews will dig columns next to the corroded piers to help stabilize them.
Construction work is expected to begin on November 4.
