GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Walmart is sitting down with Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt this week.
The mayor has a three hour meeting scheduled to talk about their proposal for a 150,000 square foot store in the city's downtown along North Broadway. Schmitt has been vocal about his concerns regarding a big box store on the site of the old Larsen canning facility.
Schmitt says this will be the first time he will meet face to face with Walmart officials.
Schmitt is looking to see how much they can bend with regards to a smaller store and still be able to serve the need of a grocery store in the downtown neighborhood.
Schmitt says he has seen smaller urban Walmart stores that are designed to fit into the architectural design of the area, which only sell groceries and he would be interested in something more along those lines for Green Bay.
No official plans have been submitted to the owners of the property On Broadway, Inc. or the city planning office.
