GREEN BAY, Wis (WSAU) - The Green Bay Interstate 43 bridge over the Fox River could re-open early next year.
Department of Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb says the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge has sagged about two feet, and another 3/4 of an inch since it was closed September 25th.
Gottlieb says they are seeking bids for the repair work, and they would like it done by January 17th. Like many highway projects, there would be financial incentives for finishing ahead of schedule and penalties for finishing late. The repair work would include sinking additional structural shafts into bedrock below four of the existing piers affected by corrosion.
DOT officials are hopeful work can begin as early as November 4th.
