CABLE, Wis. (WSAU) - A storied ski recreation and business center has a new owner. Telemark Lodge near Cable, Wisconsin went into bankruptcy and was abandoned by the former operators in September. The site that is part of the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race has a history of financial struggles. This is the third time the property has been through the foreclosure process since 1984.

The new owner is Newco LLC based in Colorado. Newco purchased the property at the Bayfield County Courthouse in a sheriff’s auction for $926,000 Tuesday.

Telemark Lodge has been closed since March, putting hundreds of employees out of work. It is unknown what Newco owners have planned next for the property, or if they will be operational for the upcoming ski season.

Telemark Lodge was one of the first alpine ski areas in the U.S., and even had Emeril Lagasse as their executive chef for four years in the late 1970’s.
