Fargo (KFGO AM) A concept to build a super softball complex north of Fargo is moving forward. Tuesday, the park board will be asked to approve a long-term lease with the city for the seven to ten million dollar park district project on city land located between I-29 and the city lagoons.
Director of Parks Dave Leker says it includes 155 acres with an additional 40 acres that could be used. He says there should be little if any problem with odor. The lagoons are only used during spring flooding at a time when the fields won't be in use.
The plan has been in the works for some time and has involved input from the public. Leker says it comes at the right time. A new city flood levee under construction will eliminate 4 of the eight diamonds at Mickelson Field, tightening an already short supply of available softball and baseball fields. The plan will make Mickelson a youth complex and the men's softball league will be relocated to the new site.
The new complex will have 13 diamonds and could be ready for use by spring of 2016.
