DNR urging Wisconsinites to prune their trees to reduce disease spread

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsinites are being urged to prune their trees this winter.

DNR foresters say it reduces the spread of tree diseases, like the common oak wilt.

That's because pruning gives insects fewer chances to attack a tree's open wounds.

Also, experts say pruning reduces the stress on trees -- and it makes it easier to spot branches that are hanging, cracked, or broken.
