APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Police in Appleton say social media helped them locate two people in connection with a purse snatching investigation.
On Thursday night, the P.D. posted an alert about the incident at Copps grocery store, 511 W. Calumet Street, on their Facebook page. A 68-year-old woman said a man grabbed her purse while she walked into the store.
Authorities say a citizen saw the Facebook posting around 9:45 a.m. Friday, which included surveillance photos of the man and woman. That citizen saw two people at the Greyhound bus terminal who looked like the suspects, and called police.
Officers say they found the two just moments before they got on a bus to Chicago.
The man was arrested. Police say he led them to a trash bin where he threw the purse away. Cash, credit cards and identification were missing from it.
Police say the female suspect was not involved with the purse snatching, but they believe she did shoplift some items from the grocery store. Police released her after questioning her, but say they will recommend charges to the district attorney's office.
