State College basketball news

(WNFL) - In Division-Three college basketball tonight, U-W Superior will play a men's-and-women's double-header at Division-Two Minnesota-Duluth.  In other men's games, U-W Platteville will host Augustana.  La Crosse is at Luther.  Eau Claire travels to Saint Scholastica.  Stout hosts Bethel.  Wisconsin Lutheran plays at North Park.  And Beloit College travels to Dominican.  In women's basketball, fourth-ranked U-W Whitewater plays at Chicago tonight.  Stout hosts Marian of Fond du Lac.  And Wisconsin Lutheran is at home against Mount Mary of Milwaukee.Black River Falls native Jack Taylor has been honored by the Midwest Conference for his 109-point performance on Sunday night.  Taylor, a junior guard from Grinnell College in Iowa, was named the league's player-of-the-week after his team beat Crossroads 173-to-123.  Taylor made half of his 70 overall shots, plus half of his 48 three-point attempts.  He also made 15-of-17 free throws, as Grinnell improved to 2-and-0.  Taylor made worldwide headlines a year ago, when he broke the N-C-A-A single-game scoring record with 138 points.  Taylor also scored 71 points last Friday night against Finlandia.  Also, Ripon College freshman Nicole Herkert is the Midwest Conference women's basketball player-of-the-week. Herkert, a guard from Oshkosh, scored 32 points in a two-point overtime loss to North Central.  She then followed it up with 15 points in a loss to Bluffton.  She shot 54-percent in the two contests with averages of eight rebounds, three assists, and one-and-a-half steals.
