Wisconsin military veterans can get identifier on driver license, state ID cards

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin military veterans will soon be able to have an identifier on their state issued driver license or I-D card.

More than 400,000 Wisconsinites could be eligible to get a new veteran distinction

They have to first verify their eligibility status with the state department of veteran affairs before stepping into the local DMV.

If they aren’t due for renewal in awhile, they can pay a $14 duplicate fee and get a new ID or driver license with the distinction.  Making the announcement in Green Bay, state Secretary of Veteran Affairs John Scocos believes Wisconsin is among the last to have some sort of state issued identifier.

The goal is to eliminate the hassle of carrying around military papers and will make it easier to access benefits and services for veterans.
