U-W Milwaukee sports making some noise

(WNFL) - The U-W Milwaukee men's basketball team will play at Davidson tonight in North Carolina.  Both teams are 0-and-1.  U-W-M lost its season opener on Friday night, 76-72 to former Horizon League foe Loyola-of-Chicago.  The Panthers committed 18 turnovers in that game, and they only made 17 free throws to Loyola's 33.  Matt Tiby led Milwaukee in that game with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.  Tonight, they'll face at Davidson team that lost its opener to Duke, 111-to-77 on Friday night.  De'Mon Brooks, the Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year, scored 24 for Davidson.  The Wildcats lost to Marquette last spring in the N-C-A-A Tournament.  And speaking of Marquette, the Golden Eagle women will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff tonight.  Marquette won its opener on Friday, 90-to-71 over Wake Forest.The Marquette men's soccer team has earned a first-round bye in this week's Big East Conference tournament.  The Golden Eagles have the Number-two seed.  They'll play either Number-three Xavier or sixth-seeded Butler in the semi-finals on Friday night in Chester Pennsylvania.  Marquette and Georgetown tied for the Big East regular season crown, but the Hoyas earned the top-seed after beating Marquette a couple weeks ago.  Marquette enters the tournament at 10-5-and-2 overall.Meanwhile, Wisconsin has the Number-two seed for the Big Ten men's soccer tournament at Ohio State.  The Badgers will open against seventh-seeded Northwestern in a quarter-final on Wednesday.  Wisconsin had 13 regular season wins for the first time in almost two decades.Also, U-W Milwaukee is the only Wisconsin team among the six schools in the Horizon League men's soccer tourney.  The Panthers have the Number-two seed and a first-round bye.  They'll play either Number-four Cleveland State or fifth-seeded Wright State in the semi-finals on Friday.
