RHINELANDER, WI (WXPR) - DNR officials will give their recommendations for the 2013 deer season next week to the Natural Resources Board. Northern Region Wildlife Supervisor Mike Zeckmeister says they will be asking for approval for the antlerless quota and permit levels throughout the state. They will also ask for approval for certain units as herd control units. Zeckmeister says results from more than 13 thousand online responses and hunter input at meetings found a majority of the responses came from the northern forest deer management region, 38 percent of the total. He says people here and elsewhere reported seeing more deer. They've been trying to build the herd, especially up north. He says both the local forums and online survey find strong support for reduced permit numbers in the Northwoods.
