MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Federal charges were dropped Wednesday against a Milwaukee police detective accused of helping a suspected drug dealer.
U.S. Attorney Eric O’Neil dropped the charges against Willie Huerta without prejudice, which means they can be re-filed later.
There was no immediate word on whether it might happen.
The 39-year-old Huerta was suspended with pay after allegations surfaced that he helped an alleged cocaine dealer. That person is one of three charged in federal court with drug counts that include trafficking cocaine.
Police officials said Wednesday that Huerta remains under suspension, because an internal investigation continues in his case.
