Mike McCarthy believes his off-season program took a positive step over the weekend with the rookie orientation camp, saying, "I felt it was clearly one of our better rookie camps, if not the best." The team conducted three practices and several meetings with 57 players in town.  The entire draft class, undrafted free agents and 27 players in on a tryout basis.   McCarthy said it's always good to see the draft picks on the field but added free agent running back Angelo Pease of Kansas State was one of the pleasant suprises of the weekend.  The team signed 9 of their 11 draft choices and 9 undrafted free agents to contracts.  Only top two picks, Datone Jones and Eddie Lacy have yet to sign.  The team will reportedly ask three of the tryout playes to stay, defensive back Brandon Smith of Arizona State, receiver Tyrone Walker of Illinois State and fullback Jonathan Amosa of Washington.  Next on the calendar is Phase 3 of the off-season program with organized team activities over the next couple of weeks leading to the mandatory mini-camp June 4-6.
