MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Eleven members of a Wisconsin National Guard agri-business development team will be welcomed home from Afghanistan on Friday.

The soldiers and airmen of the 97th Ag team are completing a four-month mission in which they helped farmers in the Afghan province of Kunar. They showed those farmers how to be more productive by repairing watersheds, improving irrigation, cultivating more trade markets, and getting more access to government and key services.

The troops also helped close operations in Kunar, as the U.S. reduces its military presence in Afghanistan.

The unit returned to the U.S. on Sunday, and is being debriefed this week.

Governor Scott Walker will be among the dignitaries at Friday’s welcome home ceremony at the Joint Force Headquarters in Madison.
