GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A double homicide suspect was chased through the Streets of Green Bay early this morning after two bodies were found at a Clement Street apartment complex.
Police say the suspect is in custody after a car chase, which began on Humboldt Road that ended in a crash near Broadway Street and Dousman and subsequent foot pursuit. Officers used a TASER device to bring the suspect down.
One officer was stabbed during scuffle that ensued, but is recovering at a local hospital. The suspect is currently undergoing treatment at a Milwaukee area hospital for a deep slashing wound to his wrist, which was apparently self-inflicted.
“After the person was taken into custody, and obviously he had a significant wound to his wrist, our officer, who was wounded as well, performed life-saving measures on this suspect by tying a tourniquet, as they’ve been trained,” Police Commander Paul Ebel told WTAQ.
Speeds reached up to 95 miles per hour during that pursuit, and police attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle before ultimately deploying spike strips to help end the car chase. A dangerous chase like that, in the middle of an urban area, isn’t the usual order of business, but Ebel said these were no ordinary circumstances.
“Our officers [were] aware that they were pursuing a double homicide suspect who had shot and killed two people mere hours before,” Ebel said. “Our officers performed superbly.”
No motive was given for the killings, but police say the suspect was related to the victims. Neither the names of the suspect nor the victims have yet to be released.
