CRANDON, WI (WXPR) - A man reputed to be a leader in the Latin Kings gang in the Northwoods was sentenced to 8 years in prison Tuesday for his role in the attempted homicide of a Wausau man last year.
20 year old Jesse Daniels of Crandon is the latest of defendants to enter a plea and be sentenced from a February, 2012 melee at a house in Mole Lake. A Wausau man was stabbed, hit over the head with frying pan and severely beaten. He escaped out a window. A pregnant female companion in the house was dragged and bound but also escaped.
Forest County District Attorney Charles Simino (sim-in-oh) said other members of the group pointed to Daniels as the enforcer. He says Daniels was owed $20,000 by people in Wausau. Simino says the plan was to beat up the person who owed him the money, but two other people showed up and the plan continued. The victim escaped to a neighbors house.
Besides the 8 year prison sentence, substitute Judge Patrick O'Melia also sentenced Daniels to 8 years extended supervision for Second Degree Attempted Homicide and False Imprisonment. Several other charges were dropped.
Some others accused in the incident have reach plea bargains and have been sentenced. Others are yet to conclude their legal process.
