DOJ report suggests flaws in Milwaukee undercover sting operation

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A report from the Justice Department inspector general suggests a flawed undercover sting in Milwaukee raises significant management issues with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The report was requested by two members of Congress, including Wisconsin Republican Jim Sensenbrenner.

The independent investigation said the problems with the Milwaukee case cause particular concern due to ATF’s failures in its Operation Fast and Furious.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz says the foul-ups and failures shows the federal agency needs to re-evaluate and strengthen its internal review process.

In Milwaukee, an undercover storefront location was burglarized and sensitive documents were handled carelessly.
