WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Investigators are piecing together details about a Saturday crash in Wausau that left the driver dead and a 4-year-old boy hospitalized.
The one vehicle crash happened on Thomas Street at about 3:00 p.m. The 24-year-old man driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Captain Ben Bliven says an autopsy on 24-year-old Michael Dixon of Rothschild shows he died of injuries in the crash, but there may be contributing factors. “We’re still investigating the other possible alternatives. We did locate a syringe, a spoon, and a lighter in the vehicle, so it could be that there was some drug use, but we won’t have a toxicology result until the medical examiner is able to get the results, so that’s going to be a few weeks, probably.”
Bliven says their crash reconstruction team is still trying to determine what exactly happened. “We’re doing the scale diagram, doing some math and trying to figure out the speed of the vehicle, and then we’ll be looking at getting the information off the vehicle data recorder to see if we can get an exact determination of speed or direction and that kind of thing, see what kind of information might be on that.” The Toyota Camry sustained severe damage to the front end.
Michael Dixon’s 4-year-old son Jordan was in a car seat, but still sustained serious injuries. He’s being treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
