ST. CROIX FALLS, WI (WSAU) - A Friday evening crash killed one person and injured several others near St. Croix Falls, in northwestern Wisconsin. Two vehicles collided in Polk County’s Eureka Township at about 7:05 p.m. at Highway 87 and 235th Avenue.
Investigators say a 1998 Buick Regal was traveling south on Highway 87 when the driver lost control on the snow-covered roads and entered the northbound lane into the path of a 2005 Toyota Sienna van with an adult and three children.
42-year-old Tracy Mattson, of St. Croix Falls was the driver of the minivan. The mother and kids were transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Buick Regal was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released. The current conditions of the Mattson family have not been reported.
The crash remains under investigation. Road conditions were reported to be slippery at the time.
