Wisconsin's frozen road declaration ends in most of the state Wednesday


MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Here’s another sign that spring’s on the way.

Wisconsin’s frozen road declaration ends Wednesday in the lower four-fifths of the state. That means certain trucks can no longer exceed normal weight limits for their winter loads.

New restrictions will take effect starting at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday on about 1,400 miles of state highways that are most susceptible to truck damage as frost leaves the ground. And most overweight load permits will be suspended.

Wednesday’s changes take effect south of Highway 8. The frozen road law continues for now in far northern Wisconsin – but officials say that could change in as early as a week.
