GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The U.S. Coast Guard says if you're planning to spend time on the bay of Green Bay next week, be on the lookout for ice breaking operations.
Beginning Monday morning, the Coast Guard says a cutter will be breaking ice from Sherwood Point Light, northwest to Green Island, then along the Lake Carriers Association track lines to Rock Island Passage and Port Des Morts.
Ice breaking will include activities around Sturgeon Bay and Escanaba, Michigan.
Ice fishermen are asked to take their shacks off the ice in these areas. Snowmobilers and ATV riders are also asked to be careful and watch out for the cutter.
In addition, the Coast Guard says ice breaking efforts will become more common after March 15 around Green Bay; Sturgeon Bay; Marinette; Menominee, Michigan; and Escanaba, Michigan.
