Wood County Sheriff's Lt. Shawn Becker works with search party to locate Toro, the missing Sheriff's Department K9 officer from the command post at Johnson Road and Club Forest Drive west of Plover.

UNDATED (WSAU)   Central Wisconsin authorities asked for people’s help this morning to find a trained law enforcement dog that went missing.

Toro, a German shepherd K-9 officer for the Wood County sheriff’s department, was loaned to a state trooper to help search a vehicle for drugs in neighboring Portage County. During the incident, Toro ran into a wooded area along Highway 54 and never returned. Wood and Portage county officers searched through the night for Toro, but could not find him.

Authorities say the dog is not dangerous unless he’s provoked.

Toro is dark brown or black. He'd have a metal collar and a 3-foot-long leash.

Anyone with information about the dog should call the Wood County sheriffs department at 715 421-8702.
