The W.I.A.A. Board of Control has approved several rule changes for high school basketball that will taken effect this winter. The Board has adopted the "mercy rule" which will require a running clock in a team has a lead of 40 points by the end of the third quarter. Even if the lead is reduced under 40 in the fourth period, the clock will still run continuously. Another rule will require a three-person referee crew for all post-season tournament games and a Division 1 team will not be allowed to host a sectional semifinal for championship game on it's home floor. One chance for hockey will allow up to 24 games on a schedule, up from 20 plus two out of state games previously.
