FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - One Fond du Lac firefighter is hurt after responding to a business fire Friday night.
It happened at a business in the 100 block of N. Main Street just after 10 p.m.
Officials say crews saw heavy smoke and flames on the first and second floors of the building when they arrived at the scene.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but the flames still caused severe damage to the structure of the building and its contents. Officials say they were at the scene until about 1:15 a.m. Saturday.
Crews say no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
A firefighter was injured battling the blaze and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He has since been released. One other person suffered from minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.
Officials believe the fire started on the lower level of the business and spread to the second floor.
"This fire could have been much worse if it wasn't for the quick response of fire crews," said fire chief Peter O'Leary.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
