Big spending expected on spring elections

MADISON (WRN)   Elections for Wisconsin Supreme Court and state school superintendent may not have generated big voter turn-out, but Mike McCabe with the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign said there was plenty of money being spent.

“They were considered to be low-profile, inexpensive elections, and yet we see over $2 million spent in the Supreme Court race and over a million dollars spent in the school superintendent race,” McCabe said.

Most of the spending was on behalf of the incumbents – Supreme Court Justice Pat Roggensack and Superintendent Tony Evers. “There challengers didn’t have that kind of backing, so they didn’t get a message out,” said McCabe.

Roggensack and her allies out spent challenger Ed Fallone by a three-to-one, while Evers and his supporters spent four times as much as challenger Don Pridemore.
