Packers plaza in downtown Green Bay to add 3 additional statues

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) -The new plaza area dedicated to the Packers in downtown Green Bay is under construction, but already changes are coming.

Packers Heritage Trail President Cliff Christl says they are doubling the number of statues to six.

Two of the new additions involve kids, with Clarke Hinkle holding a boy's hand and Bart Starr signing an autograph for a girl.

A sixth statue is still to be decided.

The three original statues include George Whitney Calhoun, Johnny "Blood" McNally and Paul Hornung. The Hinkle and Starr statues will come after September's grand opening and will be finished by November.

Packers pictures and history will provide a backdrop, along with a goal post at the corner of Cherry Street and Washington.

The Packers Heritage Trail includes 22 plaques, all but one in the downtown, so the plaza will be another draw to the area.

There is no official name for the plaza area, it’s being erected partly to recognize sponsors who have made the Packers landmark history trail possible.

The plaza’s grand opening is September 14th, a day before the season home opener at Lambeau Field
