UW Board of Regents approves system-wide tuition freeze

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - All University of Wisconsin students will have their tuition frozen over the next two years – not just those who live in the state, as required in the new state budget.

Thursday, the UW Board of Regents voted to expand the tuition freeze to include out of state students, and those taking master’s and doctoral programs.

University officials proposed a 2 percent tuition hike for this fall. But Republican state lawmakers wiped it out, after learning that UW schools built up a $650 million surplus while making students pay 5.5 percent increases in each of the last six years.
