MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Wisconsin’s largest music festival attracted 840,000 fans.
Milwaukee’s Summerfest announced final attendance figures Thursday for the 11-day bash that ended last Sunday. The crowds were 4.3 percent larger than a year ago, when a month-long heat wave kept people away.
However, this year’s total was still 38,000 less than in 2011.
The decrease would have been a little smaller had huge crowds not jammed one of the gates on June 29th because they didn’t have advance tickets.
Police alleviated a safety concern by opening the gates for 15 minutes, and up to 7,000 people got in without tickets.
