JANESVILLE, WI (WTAQ) - A school teacher in Janesville has resigned, after she was allegedly drunk while supervising fourth-graders on a school field trip.
50-year-old Maria Caya was among nine school employees who acted as chaperones, when the youngsters from Washington Elementary went bowling last month.
Janesville school officials said she became ill, and her husband took her to a hospital – where her blood alcohol level was found to be 0.27. That’s almost three-and-a-half times the legal limit of intoxication for drunk drivers.
The school district’s investigation of the incident was continuing at the time Caya resigned.
