HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) - The cause of a Saturday afternoon apartment fire in Howard that displaced nearly 50 people is not believed to be suspicious.
The investigation into the cause of the fire at Northern Pines Apartments is still ongoing.
Village of Howard Fire Chief Ed Janke says the fire caused around $650,000 in property damage between the building and personal property.
Fire crews contained the fire to four upper units, but lower units and others suffered water and smoke damage.
One firefighter was injured but everyone inside the building at the time of the call were able to make it out safely. Some pets are believed to have been lost in the blaze.
The call went out around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
More than 30 fire apparatus and command units from around the area responded. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within an hour and half. It took around two and half hours to fully extinguish the flames.
The scene wasn’t cleared until after 11 p.m.
